Nepal has a very progressive attitude towards the rights of LGBTQ+ compared to other countries in South Asia. In 2007 Nepal became a beacon in South Asia by officially recognizing the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals providing legal protection against discrimination by the Supreme Court of Nepal. It includes decriminalization of homosexuality, the right to self-identify their gender and access to equal rights. (Knight, 2023)
